OSI Foods Wins UK Globe of Honour, Completes Major Acquisitions in 2016

OSI Group is a privately owned American food supply company that supplies businesses in the retail and food service industries. OSI Group is headquartered in Aurora, Illinois, and they are known particularly for their exceptional meat processing facilities. The OSI Group has gained a sterling reputation for providing quality products and custom solutions for their business partners.

In 2016, OSI expanded by acquiring the Dutch food company Baho foods, which specializes in ‘convenience’ foods such as deli meats and assorted snacks. The acquisition was part of a broader initiative to help OSI group, which is an American company, to expand their presence in Europe. Prior to the move, OSI had five subsidiary companies with manufacturing plants in Germany or the Netherlands, which serve a total of 18 different European countries.

The Baho acquisition came on the heels of OSI’s purchase of a former Tyson Foods manufacturing plant in June of 2017. The plant, which is located on the South Side of Chicago, was purchased for 7.4 million USD, is close to many of OSI’s other Chicago facilities, which was a factor in the decision to purchase the 200,000 square foot facility. Before the plant closed, Tyson used it to manufacture prepared foods for the hospitality industry, especially meats such as chicken and meatballs. This made the plant a natural fit for the OSI Group, which has built its reputation largely on the processing of quality meat products.

2016 also saw the UK division of OSI awarded the Globe of Honour by the British Safety Council in recognition of their excellent management of environmental risks. OSI was one of only 18 companies worldwide awarded a Globe of Honour, and companies had to have already earned a 5-star rating from the Safety Council’s environmental management audit scheme to be eligible for the award. The OSI Group has always prided itself on managing environmental risks and minimizing impact while manufacturing quality foods, so winning one of the 18 Globe of Honour awards provided a meaningful recognition of the company’s efforts.
